We’ve made a list (and we’ve checked it twice) of our must-haves for day camps during the summer:
A Water Bottle – we love
S’well Bottles. They’re a great shape; they keep hot things hot, and cold things cold; plus they come in heaps of great colors and patterns; and a in a few different, handy sizes. Admittedly they’re a bit of an investment, which is why it’s important to label them so you don’t lose them!
Sunscreen – when it comes to sunscreen we have to balance our desire for healthy, eco-friendly versions with what our picky little people will put up with and
Green Beaver fits the bill. We’re happy because it’s chemical-free and made with organic ingredients. They love it because it’s easy to apply and not too sticky. As with all eco-friendly sunscreens, it tends to be priced on the high side so again, it’s worth labeling so it keeps coming home.
Sunglasses – we’re not brand-sensitive when it comes to sunglasses, instead we look for sunglasses with 100% UV protection. Many experts believe that children get 80% of their total lifetime exposure to UV rays by the time they hit 18, and the development of cataracts and other eye problems is linked to excessive exposure to UV radiation so good glasses are high on our must-have list. And we label them too because kids tend to take them on and off so often that they’re easy to lose!
A Sunhat – hats add UV protection and can help prevent sunstroke. Kids all have their preferred style of hat and as long as they wear it we’re not picky. Here’s
more info from WebMD on summer sun protection for kids and why hats are an important part of your summer arsenal. And don’t forget to label them!
Every summer camp will have it’s own suggested list of items as well but don’t leave home without these basics. Or
your waterproof labels!
