Looking for an easy (and yummy!) Valentine’s project to make with your kiddos? Spread a little love by getting the family together to make these delicious chocolate-dipped strawberries. With only two ingredients, they’re easy to assemble - and they’re absolutely delicious!
You’ll need:
- whole strawberries
- about 200 g of your favourite dark chocolate (or about 1 cup of chocolate chips)
Directions:Wash and thoroughly dry your strawberries, leaving the green tops on so they’re easy to pick up.
Next, ask your smaller sous-chefs to
break the dark chocolate into pieces. You’re going to
melt it, either in a double boiler or microwave. Chocolate will burn if you melt it over direct heat, so here’s how to melt it gently:
- use a double boiler to melt 2/3rds of the chocolate at 110 F, then add the final ⅓ of your chocolate.
- or, pop your chocolate in a microwave-safe dish, and microwave for 20 second intervals on medium until most - but not all - of your chocolate is melted. Stir in remaining chunks until all chocolate is combined.
- Gently dip your strawberries in the melted chocolate (little ones can use a fork to ensure a good grip), then transfer your creations to a sheet of parchment paper and put them in the fridge for 15 – 30 minutes so the chocolate can harden.

Once you’ve gotten the hang of this, you can fancy up your strawberries with these variations:
Melt 50 g of white chocolate and use a fork to drizzle lines of white chocolate on the cooled dark chocolate or while the chocolate is still wet, gently roll your berry in crushed nuts, colorful sprinkles or crumbled cookies.

These treats probably won’t last that long - but if you’re planning to share them at a party or at school, set each one in a muffin paper and place them all in a plastic container for the trip. Don’t forget to label your storage container to make sure it will come winging its way back to you.
Enjoy a sweet Valentine’s with your sweeties!
